Porsche 911 Goes Hybrid: Meet the 992.2
Porsche has updated the 911 Carrera GTS with a new “T-Hybrid” system. Unlike traditional hybrids, this system uses an electric turbocharger and a motor integrated into the transmission to eliminate lag and boost performance.
No Plug-In
This is not a plug-in hybrid. You can’t drive it on electric power alone. The battery is small and lightweight, designed to harvest energy quickly and deploy it instantly.
Performance Gains
The result is a 911 that is faster and more responsive than ever. The GTS now hits 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. It’s a controversial move, but one that keeps the internal combustion engine alive in the 911 for a few more years.
