Major EV Charging Network Announces 10,000 New Stations Across North America

ChargePoint, one of North America’s largest electric vehicle charging networks, announced today a massive expansion plan that will see 10,000 new charging stations installed across the United States and Canada by the end of 2026.

Strategic Locations

The expansion focuses on addressing “charging deserts”—areas currently underserved by EV infrastructure. Priority locations include:

  • Rural interstate corridors
  • Suburban shopping centers
  • Multi-family residential complexes
  • Workplace parking facilities

“Range anxiety remains one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption,” said CEO Rick Wilmer. “This expansion ensures that drivers can confidently travel anywhere in North America without worrying about finding a charge.”

Technology Upgrades

The new stations will feature the latest charging technology, including:

  • Ultra-fast 350kW DC fast charging capabilities
  • Universal compatibility with all EV brands
  • Solar canopy integration at select locations
  • Smart grid integration for optimal energy management

Most impressive is the promised charging speed—adding 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes for compatible vehicles.

Funding and Partnerships

The $2.4 billion project is funded through a combination of private investment, federal infrastructure grants, and partnerships with major automakers. Ford, GM, and Stellantis have all committed to co-funding stations at dealership locations.

Additionally, the company has partnered with major retailers including Walmart, Target, and Costco to install charging stations at existing parking facilities, creating convenient charging opportunities during regular shopping trips.

Industry Impact

Industry analysts view this expansion as a crucial step toward mainstream EV adoption. “Infrastructure availability directly correlates with EV sales,” notes automotive analyst Jennifer Park. “This kind of commitment from charging networks signals confidence in the EV future and will likely accelerate adoption rates.”

The announcement comes as several states have committed to phasing out new internal combustion engine vehicle sales by 2035, creating pressure to build adequate charging infrastructure quickly.

Timeline

Construction begins in Q1 2025, with the first 2,000 stations expected to be operational by year-end. The company projects completing the full 10,000-station rollout by December 2026, weather and permitting dependent.
