Why You Should Daily Drive a Classic Car
My daily driver is a 1988 BMW 3 Series. It smells like old leather and gasoline. The air conditioning is… optimistic. It requires constant attention. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Character Building
Driving an old car forces you to be present. You have to listen to the engine. You have to plan your braking. You are an active participant in the process of getting from A to B.
Conversation Starter
You meet the most interesting people at gas stations. Everyone has a story about “my dad had one of those” or “I learned to drive in that.” It brings joy to people in a way a grey crossover never could.
Sustainability
The greenest car is the one that already exists. Keeping an old car on the road is a form of recycling. So go ahead, buy that old Volvo or Mercedes. It’s good for the planet (sort of).
